Rwanda is a great destination to visit year-round, but the best time depends on your planned activities. The dry seasons from June to September and December to February are ideal for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, as the trails are drier and easier to navigate. This period is also excellent for wildlife safaris in Akagera National Park, where animals gather around water sources, making them easier to spot.

Rwanda is one of the safest countries in Africa, with low crime rates and a strong security presence. Kigali, the capital, is known for its cleanliness and order. However, as with any travel destination, it's wise to take standard precautions, such as avoiding isolated areas at night and keeping an eye on personal belongings.
Most travelers can obtain a visa on arrival or apply for an e-Visa online before travel. Citizens of the East African Community (EAC) can enter visa-free, while travelers from the African Union, Commonwealth, and La Francophonie nations are also eligible for visa-free entry. The Rwanda East Africa Tourist Visa allows entry to Rwanda, Kenya, and Uganda on a single visa.
Respect the environment: Rwanda is a leader in conservation, so avoid littering and follow eco-friendly practices. Be mindful of cultural etiquette: Greetings are important—use a handshake and maintain eye contact. Support local communities: Buy handicrafts from local artisans and use community-based tourism services. Respect gorilla trekking guidelines: Maintain a safe distance from gorillas and avoid flash photography.
The official languages of Rwanda are Kinyarwanda, English, French, and Swahili. Kinyarwanda is widely spoken by locals, while English and French are common in business and tourism settings.
