Day 1
Arrival in Kigali – City Tour & Welcome Dinner
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be greeted by your guide and taken on a city tour. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local art galleries, and craft markets to get a feel for Rwanda’s resilient spirit. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant before checking into your hotel for overnight.
After breakfast, drive east to Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah park and home to the Big Five. Settle into your lodge and head out for a sunset game drive, where you may spot elephants, antelope, and hippos as the sun dips over the plains. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 2
Transfer to Akagera National Park – Sunset Game Drive
Day 3
Full-Day Game Drive in Akagera National Park
Spend the entire day exploring Akagera’s diverse landscapes. Drive through woodland, swamp, low mountains, and savannah as you search for lions, giraffes, zebras, leopards, and more. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park and continue your safari into the afternoon. This is a great opportunity for photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.
Start your day with a tranquil boat safari on Lake Ihema. Watch hippos, crocodiles, and water birds from close range. Return to Kigali in the afternoon and visit the Nyamirambo Women’s Center for an engaging cultural tour that includes local storytelling, food tasting, and a guided walk through a bustling neighborhood.
Day 4
Morning Boat Safari – Transfer to Kigali & Cultural Experience
Day 5
Drive to Volcanoes National Park – Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village Visit
Travel northwest to Volcanoes National Park, the gateway to mountain gorilla trekking. En route, enjoy views of Rwanda’s iconic rolling hills. Upon arrival, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village where you’ll interact with former poachers turned conservation ambassadors, watch traditional dances, and learn about Rwandan customs and rituals.
Today is the highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing before starting your gorilla trek. Trek through bamboo forest and lush terrain in search of a gorilla family. Once located, you’ll spend one powerful hour observing them in their natural habitat. Return to your lodge to relax and reflect on this unforgettable experience.
Day 6
Gorilla Trekking Experience in Volcanoes National Park
Day 7
Golden Monkey Trekking – Return to Kigali & Departure
On your final morning, embark on a guided trek to see the rare and playful golden monkeys in the forested foothills of the volcanoes. After the trek, begin your return journey to Kigali. Depending on your departure schedule, enjoy some last-minute shopping or a relaxing lunch before your airport drop-off.
